Loft Insulation in Barry
Barry's dock-era terraces often have little more than a token layer in the loft, and bringing it up to 270mm with mineral wool is a cost-effective first step.

Barry, Vale of Glamorgan
We install loft insulation in Barry across CF62 and CF63, covering everything from the long terraced streets that grew up with the docks to newer houses on the Waterfront. Barry is around twenty minutes from Cardiff, so we're local enough to survey quickly and come back on a day that suits you.
Barry's coastal position matters in the loft. Wind-driven rain off the Bristol Channel tests older roofs hard, and we check for damp and ventilation problems as carefully as we measure insulation depth. You get a straight answer and a written quote, usually within 24 hours.
Barry grew fast after the docks opened in the late nineteenth century, and a large share of the town's homes date from that period: two-storey terraces in long rows, with larger bay-fronted houses on the streets above the docks and towards the seafront. Their lofts are usually modest, often with original timbers, and many have only a thin layer of insulation laid long ago.
Around those older areas are interwar and post-war estates of semis and council-built homes, and on the old dockland there's the newer Waterfront development. Those newer houses are built with trussed rafters and come with insulation already, but the timber webs leave little room to move about, and boarding over them carelessly can squash what's there. Each type needs a different approach, so we don't quote from a template.

Exposed homes near the coast can get damp roof timbers when blocked eaves stop air moving, so we treat the mould and fix the ventilation behind it.

Owners of newer Waterfront and estate homes often want storage space, and raised boarding avoids compressing the insulation the builder put in.
View serviceHouses near Barry Island, the seafront and higher ground facing the Channel take a lot of wind-driven rain. Small gaps at the eaves or under ridge tiles let moisture in, and if old insulation has been stuffed right into the eaves, the roof can't breathe. When we insulate, we fit eaves ventilation where it's needed and leave the airflow clear.
On terraced streets, we'll agree parking and access before the day. If you're thinking about storage in a newer home, read our guide to boarding a loft without crushing the insulation, or see how our loft mould treatment tackles the cause rather than just the stains.
In coastal towns like Barry the two main culprits are wind-driven rain getting past old slates or felt, and warm, moist air from the house condensing on a cold roof. Condensation is the more common one, especially where insulation blocks the eaves. We look for which it is during the survey, because the fix is different: a roofer for leaks, ventilation and treatment for condensation.
Newer homes are built with insulation already in the loft, often at or near current recommended depths, so a top-up isn't always needed. What owners usually want is somewhere to store things. Boarding straight onto the joists would compress the insulation, so we fit raised boarding on loft legs instead. We'll measure what's there and only recommend extra insulation if it's genuinely short.
Most terraced lofts in Barry are completed in a single day. That includes clearing access, laying crawl boards, fitting mineral wool between and across the joists, insulating the hatch and keeping eaves ventilation clear. If the loft is full of stored items, clearing it beforehand saves time, but we can work around things if needed.
Yes. We cover the whole town, including Barry Island, the Waterfront, the older streets around the docks and the outlying estates, as well as nearby villages such as Rhoose and Sully. Our team works Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm, so we can usually find a survey slot that suits you.
