Loft Insulation in Lisvane

Lisvane is a village on Cardiff's northern edge, set among fields and lanes, and its homes are generally larger than in most of the city. Bigger houses mean bigger roofs, more complicated shapes and lofts that owners want to make real use of. Loft insulation in Lisvane often goes hand in hand with boarding and a decent ladder.

We cover Lisvane as part of our north Cardiff area. Surveys are free and quotes usually arrive within 24 hours. See the full range of loft services we offer.

Detached homes with complex roofs

Most Lisvane housing is detached, built across the later decades of the twentieth century and into the present day, with older cottages and farmhouses scattered around the original village and newer developments on its fringes. Plenty have been extended over the years with garages, side wings and rooms above.

All of that creates roofs with several pitches, valleys and separate voids. Rather than one loft, a Lisvane home may have a main roof space, a smaller void over an extension and a room above a garage with sloping ceilings. Each needs its own approach, and the smaller voids are often the ones that have been forgotten.

Homes built from the 1990s onwards usually had reasonable insulation when new, but it has often been flattened by storage over time or disturbed by electricians and alarm installers. Older properties in the village can have very little.

Large modern lofts are frequently fitted with trussed rafters spanning a wide footprint. That gives plenty of floor area, but the webs break it up, so storage platforms need to be planned around them. Down lighters cut into the ceilings below are another common feature, and insulation must be kept clear of any fittings that need space around them unless they are protected with suitable covers.

Loft Boarding in Lisvane

Large Lisvane lofts are valuable storage space, and raised boarding lets you use it fully without compressing the insulation beneath.

Rooms over garages and extensions with sloping ceilings are common here, and multifoil at the rafters suits spaces where floor-level insulation will not work.

Planning a full loft upgrade

Lisvane owners often ask us to do everything at once: top up insulation, board a storage area and fit a ladder. Doing it in that order, in one visit where possible, avoids lifting boards later to reach the insulation. Our guide on choosing a loft ladder covers sizes and types, and the loft boarding page explains how we raise the deck.

Lanes around the village can be narrow, but most homes have driveways, which makes access for materials simple.

Loft insulation in Lisvane: FAQs

My house has several loft spaces. Do you insulate them all?

We survey every void we can access, including spaces above extensions, garages and bay roofs. Some are small but still sit over heated rooms, so they matter. Your quote lists each area separately, so you can see what is included and decide what to prioritise.

Can you board a large loft and still meet the 270mm depth?

Yes. We fix the boards on raised loft legs that sit above the full depth of insulation, so nothing is squashed. The legs are fixed to the joists or truss chords, and the deck is sized to the storage area you want, leaving the edges open for insulation and airflow.

How do you insulate a room above a garage?

It depends on the construction. Where the sloping ceilings can be reached from small side voids, we insulate those voids and the flat ceiling above. If the slopes themselves need improving, multifoil fixed to the rafters is often the practical option. We confirm the best approach after looking at the room.

Do you fit loft ladders in new-build homes?

Yes. Newer homes often have a small hatch with no ladder at all. We can supply and fit an aluminium folding or sliding ladder and, if the joist layout allows, enlarge the hatch to suit. The ladder is priced after we have measured the opening and the floor-to-ceiling height.
