Loft Insulation in Swansea

We fit loft insulation in Swansea, from the city centre and the Uplands to Sketty, Morriston, St Thomas and out towards Mumbles. Our Cardiff team travels west along the M4.

Swansea is built around a wide bay, with much of its housing rising up steep hillsides behind it. It is also one of the wetter cities in the UK, and that rain is often driven hard off the sea. Getting loft insulation right here means paying attention to damp as well as depth. We survey free of charge and send a written quote, usually within 24 hours.

Hillside terraces, Uplands villas and council estates

Swansea's industrial past, built on copper smelting and the docks, left long rows of Victorian terraces climbing the hills around the centre, in areas such as Mount Pleasant, St Thomas and Morriston. These usually have slate roofs, modest lofts and chimney breasts on the party walls. Many have been converted into flats or student lets, especially near the university.

The Uplands and Sketty are home to larger Victorian and Edwardian villas and semis, with high, steeply pitched roofs and lots of loft volume. Owners here often want to use that space, which changes the approach. Higher up on the hills, interwar and post-war council estates such as Townhill and Penlan have simpler roofs with easy lofts but thin original insulation.

Out along the bay towards Mumbles there's a mix of period seaside houses, bungalows and newer homes, all exposed to wind and salt air coming straight off the water.

What Swansea homes usually need

SuperFOIL multifoil fitted and taped across the rafters of a loft with a brick gable wall, installed by our Cardiff team

SuperFOIL Insulation in Swansea

The big roofs of Uplands and Sketty villas are often used as storage or hobby rooms, and multifoil on the rafters keeps that space warm without losing headroom.

Loft Mould Treatment in Swansea

Swansea's wet, westerly weather pushes moisture into older roofs, so we treat mould on timbers and fix the ventilation problems that lead to it.

Damp, hills and city streets

Swansea's steep terraced streets can make parking and unloading tricky, so we talk through access before the day. On converted houses and flats, we'll need agreement from whoever is responsible for the roof space before starting work.

With so much rain, roof leaks and condensation are the first things we rule out. Insulation that has got wet loses much of its value, and covering a damp problem only hides it. Our SuperFOIL vs mineral wool comparison is useful if you are deciding how to insulate a loft you use, and Welsh homeowners may want to read our page on loft insulation grants in Wales.

Loft insulation in Swansea: FAQs

Which parts of Swansea do you cover?

We cover the whole city, including the centre, Uplands, Sketty, Mumbles, Townhill, Morriston, St Thomas, Bonymaen and the areas between them. Our Cardiff team travels along the M4. Surveys can be booked any day between 8am and 6pm.

We use our Uplands loft for storage. What's the best way to insulate it?

There are two main options. You can insulate the floor with mineral wool and fit raised boards above it, which keeps the storage area cold but the house warm. Or, if you use the space more like a room, SuperFOIL fixed to the rafters keeps the loft itself warmer. We'll look at the roof and how you use it before recommending either.

Can you insulate a student house or flat conversion in Swansea?

Yes. Many terraces near the university are let to students or split into flats. We work with landlords and letting agents to agree a time that suits tenants, and with converted buildings we need permission from whoever owns or manages the roof space. The work itself is the same as on any terraced house.

Will Swansea's rain cause problems with new insulation?

Not if the roof is sound and the loft is ventilated. Before laying anything, we check for leaks, wet timber and condensation, because damp insulation does very little. If we find a problem, we'll explain it and recommend fixing it first. We also keep eaves gaps clear so the loft can dry out naturally.
