Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot
Port Talbot's homes were largely built for the people who worked its docks and steelworks, and many of their lofts have never been looked at properly since. We carry out loft insulation in Port Talbot across SA12 and SA13, with our Cardiff team travelling west along the M4, which runs right through the town.
We begin with a free survey in the roof space. You will hear what we found, what we recommend and why, and your written quote normally lands within 24 hours. Most jobs are completed in one day.
Older parts of the town such as Taibach and Aberavon are built up with terraced streets, squeezed between the mountain and the industrial land. Their lofts are long and narrow, with low pitches, small hatches and party walls that don't always reach the slates. Insulation in these houses is often decades old and has been disturbed by electricians and plumbers over the years.
Sandfields, behind Aberavon beach, is a very different area. It was built between the late 1940s and mid-1950s to house steelworkers, mostly as semi-detached houses with plain, roomy roofs. They are easy to top up, but some have been treated with sprayed foam on the underside of the roof in the past, and their position close to the shore leaves them open to strong, damp winds off Swansea Bay. More recent estates have been added around the edges of the town.

The open, simple roofs in Sandfields are well suited to a full mineral wool top-up, usually done well within a day.

Homes near the seafront catch moist air off the bay, and lofts with blocked eaves often show mould on the timbers that we treat at the source.
View servicePort Talbot faces straight onto Swansea Bay, and south-westerly gales bring heavy rain and salt into roof spaces, particularly in Sandfields and Aberavon. We check for wet insulation and staining before we start, and we always leave a clear route for air at the eaves. If your loft has foam stuck to the rafters, read our guide to spray foam removal before you decide what to do.
On the terraced streets in Taibach, parking is often kerbside and close to neighbours, so we keep the van tidy and work quickly. You can see how we handle the process on our spray foam removal page.
This happens a lot. Many lenders are wary of sprayed foam because it can trap moisture and hide the condition of the timbers. We remove the foam, clean the rafters so they can be inspected, and insulate the loft floor with mineral wool. You get written details of the work done to pass to your buyer.
Yes. Seafront houses take strong winds loaded with rain and salt, which can work under slates and into the roof. That makes good ventilation essential. We check eaves and ridge airflow, look for damp patches, and make sure the new insulation does not block the gaps the roof needs to breathe.
We travel along the M4, which passes straight through the town, so getting to homes across Aberavon, Sandfields, Taibach and Margam is straightforward. We book surveys at a time that suits you, any day of the week between 8am and 6pm.
Yes, although they are low and narrow, which makes the edges hard to reach. That is exactly where heat escapes if the job is rushed. We work right down to the eaves on both sides, keeping a gap for ventilation, and cover the hatch with an insulated, draught-sealed board. Size is not the issue here; complete coverage is.
