Loft Insulation in Whitchurch

Whitchurch grew outwards from the old village around Merthyr Road and Whitchurch Common, so a short walk can take you past Edwardian terraces, interwar semis and post-war family homes. Loft insulation in Whitchurch varies as much as the houses do, and we tailor each job to the roof in front of us.

We are a Cardiff-based team covering all of CF14. A free survey tells you exactly what your loft has, what it needs and what it will cost, usually in writing within 24 hours. Request your survey here.

A mix built over a century

The older streets near the village centre are lined with late-Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many with modest lofts and original slate roofs. Moving away from Merthyr Road, the interwar years brought large numbers of semis with generous hipped or gabled roof spaces, and later decades filled in the gaps with post-war houses and bungalows.

That variety shows up in lofts. Terraces tend to have thin, patchy insulation and small hatches. Semis usually have one older layer that needs topping up. And in a minority of homes, we find spray foam glued to the underside of the roof, often installed years ago with promises about energy savings.

Spray foam is the one we get asked about most. It can hide the condition of roof timbers, hold moisture against them and cause trouble when a house is sold or remortgaged, as some lenders and surveyors are cautious about it. Taking it off properly is slow, careful work, followed by insulating the loft the right way.

Newer homes built around Whitchurch in recent decades usually had reasonable insulation from the start, so our work in those tends to be boarding, ladders or putting right insulation that has been disturbed.

Before you sell or remortgage

We regularly hear from Whitchurch owners whose sale has stalled because a survey flagged spray foam in the loft. If that is you, an inspection will tell you what kind of foam is present and how much of the roof it covers. Our spray foam removal guide covers what is involved, and the spray foam removal service page explains how we carry it out.

Most Whitchurch streets have reasonable parking, which makes deliveries and waste removal simpler, especially on larger removal jobs that generate a lot of material.

Loft insulation in Whitchurch: FAQs

A buyer's surveyor flagged spray foam in my loft. What now?

Start with an inspection so you know what is there and how much of the roof it covers. Removal involves cutting and scraping the foam from the rafters and battens, cleaning the timbers and then insulating at the loft floor. We provide a clear written quote, which can help you keep a sale moving.

How long does spray foam removal take compared with normal insulation?

Considerably longer. A standard loft top-up is usually a one-day job, but removing foam is slow work and the time depends on the roof size and how firmly the foam is bonded. We give you a realistic timescale after the survey rather than guessing on the phone.

My Edwardian terrace has a tiny hatch. Is that a problem?

Not for insulation, which comes in rolls that fit through small openings. It can limit boarding and ladders, though. If you want those, we check whether the joists around the hatch allow it to be enlarged safely and include that in the quote.

Do you insulate bungalows in Whitchurch?

Yes, and they are some of the most rewarding jobs because the entire living space sits under the loft. Bungalow roofs are usually low and wide, so we work carefully towards the eaves where headroom runs out and make sure ventilation gaps stay open once the new layer is down.
