Radyr, Cardiff
Radyr has kept its village feel despite sitting within Cardiff's boundary, with the River Taff and the Taff Trail on one side and woodland close by. The village grew up around its railway station, and its housing has built up in layers ever since. Loft insulation in Radyr covers everything from large period houses to modern family homes.
We're a Cardiff-based team covering CF15, including Radyr and neighbouring Morganstown. Every quote follows a free survey of your loft.
The oldest houses near the station and along the older village roads are late Victorian and Edwardian, often detached or semi-detached, with tall slate roofs and plenty of loft space. Their roofs can be complex, with several ridges and valleys, so there may be more than one roof void to insulate.
Interwar and post-war houses followed, then larger estates through the later twentieth century and into the 2000s. These newer homes mostly have trussed roofs and need topping up rather than starting from scratch, and their lofts are often wanted for storage, which makes boarding a common addition.
With woods, large gardens and the riverside nearby, mice and squirrels finding a way into the roof is more of a consideration here than in the city centre. Overhanging branches, ivy on walls and gaps where fascia boards have aged all give them a route in, so we check the outside of the roofline as well as the loft itself.

Raised boarding turns a roomy loft into usable storage while keeping the insulation at full depth underneath.

Homes close to woodland and the river can attract mice and squirrels. We close off entry points and replace damaged insulation.
View servicePeriod houses with several roof sections may have voids that can't be reached from the main hatch. We check for these on the survey and tell you if any need their own access point.
For a sense of how boarding works over deep insulation, read our guide to boarding without crushing insulation. If you've heard scratching overhead, the rodent proofing page explains how we deal with it.
Morganstown, just to the north, is covered on the same basis. Larger Radyr lofts can take a while to clear before work starts, so tell us when you book if you'd like help planning what needs moving and where it can go.
Ideally, yes. Older houses with more than one ridge often have separate voids, and insulating only the space above the main hatch can leave whole bedrooms underneath cold. We check each void on the survey. Where one has no access, we'll explain the options, which may include adding a small hatch.
They can, especially where trees overhang the roof or there are gaps at the eaves, fascias or around old vents. Squirrels chew timber and cables as well as nesting in insulation. We seal entry points with tough mesh and replace any damaged insulation. If a squirrel is actively living in the loft, a pest controller may need to remove it first.
Yes. Radyr and Morganstown are within the Cardiff council area and part of our regular coverage. Our team travels from Cardiff, and surveys and installs are arranged in exactly the same way as anywhere else in the city, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
It can be, particularly if you'd like to keep the loft usable as a store or workspace. SuperFOIL fixed to the rafters insulates the roof slope and leaves the floor clear. In a large, empty loft, mineral wool at joist level is usually better value, because you're keeping the rooms below warm rather than the whole roof space.
