Loft Insulation in Bristol
We install loft insulation across Bristol, from the terraced streets south of the river to the semis and townhouses in the north of the city. The team crosses from Cardiff on the M4 over the Prince of Wales Bridge, then into the city on the M5 or M32.
Bristol has one of the most varied housing stocks of any UK city, and no two lofts are quite alike. A Georgian townhouse, a Victorian terrace and a 1950s council semi each need a different approach. We survey first, explain what will work in your roof and why, and send a written quote, usually within 24 hours.

Georgian, Victorian and twentieth-century Bristol
Clifton and Hotwells are known for their Georgian terraces and crescents. These tall houses often have complex roofs with valleys, parapets and small, separate roof voids rather than one open loft, and many are listed. Insulating them is fiddly, careful work.
The Victorian and Edwardian terraces that fill areas such as Bedminster, Southville, Easton, Bishopston and Totterdown are more straightforward. Their lofts are compact, often with lath-and-plaster ceilings below and slate or clay tiles above, and they commonly have little insulation, or a layer disturbed by years of rewiring and storage.
Then there is the large twentieth-century stock: interwar council estates such as Knowle West and the garden-suburb streets of Sea Mills, followed by post-war estates on the southern edge of the city such as Hartcliffe and Withywood. These homes usually have generous, simple lofts that respond very well to a full top-up, and are often where people want boarded storage too.
What Bristol homes usually need

Loft Insulation in Bristol
Bristol's interwar and post-war semis have open lofts that take a full 270mm of Knauf Earthwool easily, making them one of the quickest wins in the city.

Loft Boarding in Bristol
In family homes short on space, we raise the boards on loft legs so you gain storage above the insulation instead of squashing it.

Spray Foam Removal in Bristol
Spray foam under a roof can hold up a sale when a buyer's surveyor flags it, and we remove it, clean the rafters and re-insulate with conventional materials.
Parking, listed buildings and city access
Bristol's Clean Air Zone, residents' parking schemes and narrow terraced streets all affect how we plan a job, so we talk through parking and access when we book. On busy roads we unload early.
If your home is listed, works inside the loft can sometimes need listed building consent, so check with Bristol City Council before starting. Many Bristol buyers now ask about foam under the roof, and our spray foam removal guide explains why. For storage, see raised loft boarding.
Loft insulation in Bristol: FAQs
Do you cover the whole of Bristol?
We cover the city and its suburbs, travelling across from Cardiff. Because we do not have a base in the city, we book surveys and installs in advance rather than offering same-day call-outs. Tell us your postcode when you get in touch and we will confirm a date that works.
Can you insulate the loft of a listed Georgian house in Clifton?
Often, yes, but it needs more care. These roofs tend to be split into several small voids, access can be tight, and old timbers and ceilings must be protected. Listed status may mean you need consent for some changes, so it is wise to check with the council first. We use breathable mineral wool that suits older buildings and never block existing ventilation.
My buyer's survey mentioned spray foam in the roof. What now?
It is becoming a familiar story. Many lenders want to see foam removed or properly assessed before agreeing a mortgage, because it can hide the condition of the timbers. We can inspect it, remove it fully, clean the rafters and re-insulate the loft, which gives your buyer's surveyor a clear view of the roof.
Is it worth insulating a small Victorian terrace loft?
Yes. Even a compact loft covers your whole top floor, and in Bristol's older terraces it often holds very little insulation. The materials needed are modest and the work is usually done within the day. Expect a noticeably warmer top floor through winter.
