Loft Insulation in Roath
Roath is a big area with a wide spread of homes, from tightly packed terraces around City Road to the generous Edwardian houses that ring Roath Park lake. What they share is age: almost everything here pre-dates any requirement to insulate a roof. Loft insulation in Roath often means starting from very little and doing the job properly the first time.
We are based locally and cover the whole of CF24 and the Roath Park side of CF23. Surveys are free, quotes usually arrive within 24 hours and most installations take a single day. Take a look at recent jobs we have completed to see what that involves.

From Plasnewydd terraces to Roath Park houses
South of Albany Road and Wellfield Road, Roath is mainly two-storey Victorian terraces with small lofts, low ridge heights and narrow hatches. Plenty have been split into flats or let as shared houses. The lofts are compact, so getting even coverage right to the edges matters more than in a bigger roof.
Head north towards Ninian Road and the park and the houses grow. Many are substantial Edwardian semis and terraces with three storeys, bigger roof spaces and sometimes a second loft over the back. Some owners have already turned part of the roof into a playroom or study, leaving awkward voids around the edges that are hard to insulate with roll alone.
Across both types, the common finds are old fibreglass that has slumped to a fraction of its original depth, gaps around the hatch, uninsulated water tanks and pipework, and slate roofs with no underlay. Each of those is simple to put right once someone has looked properly.
What Roath homes usually need

Loft Insulation in Roath
The smaller terraced lofts in Roath are ideal for a full 270mm top-up in Knauf Earthwool, often completed in a morning.

SuperFOIL Insulation in Roath
Larger Roath Park houses with part-converted roofs or loft storage rooms suit multifoil fixed to the rafters, keeping the headroom you already have.

Loft Ladders in Roath
Bigger Edwardian lofts are worth using, and a folding aluminium ladder turns a climb on a stepladder into safe everyday access.
Practical points for Roath homes
The Roath Park area is a designated conservation area, which mostly affects work on the outside of a house. Insulation laid within the loft is internal, so it seldom needs any permission, though we will raise it if your plans involve rooflights or anything visible from the street.
On busy streets near City Road and Albany Road, we try to arrive early so materials can be unloaded without blocking anyone in. If you are weighing up multifoil against standard loft roll for a partly used roof, our SuperFOIL vs mineral wool comparison sets out the differences, and the SuperFOIL service page explains how we fit it.
Loft insulation in Roath: FAQs
Is a small Roath terrace loft worth insulating?
Yes. A small loft still sits over your whole top floor, and in older terraces it may have little or nothing in it. Because the space is compact, the materials needed are modest and the work is quick. It is one of the most cost-effective improvements you can make to a Victorian terrace.
We use part of our loft as a room. What happens to the rest?
The small spaces behind the knee walls and above the ceiling of a loft room are often left bare. Where we can reach them, we insulate those voids and the sloping sections. If they are sealed off, we can sometimes access them through existing cupboards or a small hatch. We assess this on the survey.
Do you insulate water tanks and pipes in the loft?
Yes. Once the loft floor is insulated, the roof space above becomes colder, so any tanks and pipes left exposed are more likely to freeze. We lag pipework and insulate around tanks, leaving the area directly beneath the tank clear so a little warmth from below still reaches it.
Can you work on a Roath house that has been split into flats?
Yes. In converted houses the loft usually sits above the top flat, and access is often through that flat's ceiling. We need agreement from whoever is responsible for the roof space, which may be a freeholder or the owners jointly. Once that is settled, the work itself is the same as in any other terrace.
