Loft Insulation in Frampton Cotterell
We install loft insulation in Frampton Cotterell, Winterbourne and Coalpit Heath, covering the BS36 villages north of Bristol. Our team crosses the Severn on the M4 from Cardiff, so the drive to you is a short one once we are over the bridge. The wider Insulation Company also has a sister team in Bristol.
These villages mix old stone cottages with large estates built for people commuting into Bristol, and the lofts vary just as much. We survey free of charge, recommend only what is worthwhile for your roof, and send a written quote, usually within 24 hours.

Old village cottages and commuter estates
Frampton Cotterell has a long industrial history for a village. It was known for felt hat making, and coal was dug around Coalpit Heath nearby. The oldest homes are stone cottages and small terraces built from local Pennant sandstone, with roofs of clay tile or slate. Lofts in these are often small, irregular and partly taken up by chimneys, and the ceilings below may be lath and plaster.
From the 1960s onwards, the village grew a great deal with estates of semis, detached houses and bungalows, much of it for families working in Bristol and at the aerospace sites to the west. These homes have regular pitched roofs, often with trusses, and roomy lofts. The insulation laid at the time is usually thin, and years of storage on top of it have flattened it further.
The result is two quite different jobs. In the estate houses, it is mostly a top-up and some sensible boarding. In the older cottages, we take more care over fragile ceilings and awkward corners, and make sure the roof can still breathe. Either way, we'll check the hatch, the pipework and any water tank, since those are the spots most often left bare.
What Frampton Cotterell homes usually need

Loft Boarding in Frampton Cotterell
Commuter-era family homes in BS36 lean heavily on loft storage, and raising the boards on loft legs lets the insulation underneath reach its full depth.

Loft Insulation in Frampton Cotterell
Estate houses from the 1960s to the 1980s usually have flattened original insulation that a fresh layer of Knauf Earthwool will bring up to standard.

Rodent Proofing in Frampton Cotterell
Village homes backing onto fields and the Frome valley can attract mice in the colder months, so we seal gaps and replace any contaminated insulation.
Practical notes for Frampton Cotterell
Parts of the village centre are covered by conservation designations, and some older cottages are listed. Work inside the loft usually doesn't change the outside of a house, but for listed properties it is worth checking with South Gloucestershire Council before starting. As this is England, building work follows England's Building Regulations, and a simple top-up doesn't normally need sign-off.
Most homes have driveways, so unloading is easy. If you want a storage floor up there, our guide to loft boarding without crushing insulation explains the method, and our rodent proofing service covers what we do if you've had unwanted visitors.
Loft insulation in Frampton Cotterell: FAQs
Do you cover Winterbourne and Coalpit Heath as well?
Yes. We cover Frampton Cotterell together with Winterbourne, Coalpit Heath and the other BS36 villages. The team travels from Cardiff over the Prince of Wales Bridge, and surveys can be arranged any day of the week between 8am and 6pm.
Our stone cottage has a tiny, awkward loft. Can it be insulated?
In most cases, yes. Small cottage lofts with chimney stacks and uneven joists take longer per square metre than a modern estate house, but mineral wool roll can be cut to fit tight spaces. We are careful not to block airflow, because older stone buildings need to stay breathable. If parts can't be reached, we'll explain that on the survey.
Can we keep our loft storage and still insulate properly?
Yes. We fit boards on raised loft legs, so the new floor sits above the insulation rather than squashing it. That means you can have a full depth of mineral wool underneath and still store boxes, cases and seasonal items on top. We plan the boarded area around your hatch and how you use the space.
